Belduga Angus are quiet and contented as they graze the lush pastures on the productive land at Leongatha South. There are eleven paddocks further divided for strip grazing. Water is reticulated to troughs by windmills, from four dams, with a contribution from the town water supply.

Shirley aims to breed structurally sound cattle with excellent carcase attributes including marbling. She uses AI extensively and selects sires carefully to provide balanced traits including calving ease, growth, and the ability to reproduce maternal and fertility characteristics. An independent assessor views all her cattle at least once a year and with his help she selects the heifers for her own replacement programme, and the best of the young bulls to offer for sale. She is a member of Angus Group Breedplan and uses ultra sound scanning to gather carcase information, weighing her cattle at intervals to supply data which goes into Breedplan to provide the EBVs to assist her clients in their sire selection.

As a General Practitioner during her working life, Shirley understands the benefits of consulting with colleagues, and continued learning. Therefore she values discussion within the beef industry, and enjoys hosting field days and seminars at her property. She is soon to retire from medicine, but will take from that profession the ability to observe and put into practice plans to further improve the quality of Belduga Angus Cattle.
