Dennis
and Rosalie Stringer
|
Dennis & Rosalie's property at Bairnsdale has a 4 km. frontage to Duck Arm of Lake Victoria, the homestead enjoying picturesque water views. They are surrounded by red river gums and box. These trees could be 200-400 years old, as early property photos show little change in tree size from then to now. The paddocks behind are lush and green, amply treed for shelter with mature timbe,. and backed up with new plantings by the direct seeding method.
"Ballykeenan" was a Beefcheque Focus Farm for four years, and during visits by other property owners, Rosalie and Dennis found the interaction brought positive discussions, with exchanging of ideas such as intensive stocking with rotational grazing and sharing of problems during recent drought times. Their grown-up family of three daughters, husbands and children are regular visitors to "Ballykeenan".
Rosalie and Dennis were the 1999 joint recipients of the Hanslow Cup (the Pivot Award) Victoria for farm management, their surprise nomination being made by a fellow farmer. This award stands proudly in their lounge room.
The Stringer's are passionate supporters of Gippsland and Gippsbeef, are active members of Landcare, Rosalie is Secretary both to East Gippsland Brand of Beefcheque and Bairnsdale BIA, and Dennis a Life Member of the Fire Brigade and President of Beefcheque. Rosalie and Dennis' cattle are in prime condition, are friendly and curious, as they gather round visitors unafraid, contentedly standing amongst their sheltered and lush pastures at "Ballykeenan".
