With a commitment to responsibly managing their land and improving the biodiversity, the Davie family property "Bimbadeen" (Aboriginal for place of good view), is an excellent example of combining productivity and conservation.

Bob and Anne’s commitment to the environment has been recognised with numerous Landcare and Climate Action awards.

Bob said they have planted over 26,000 indigenous grasses, shrubs and trees as well as protecting all existing remnant vegetation on their property.

“Bimbadeen is an accredited ‘Land for Wildlife’ property,” he said.

“Salinity is a common problem on the island and we have played a leading role in conducting research over many years to try and find the best ways to manage this risk.”

“Solutions so far have included planting native trees and shrubs, trialling salt-tolerant pasture varieties and pumping groundwater to remove saline ground water from plant roots.”

Climate change is also a big issue identified by Bob and Anne. They have been exploring how they can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by participating in the national Greenhouse gas challenge.

“Our efforts in sequestering carbon through innovative cropping trials and minimising waste has seen Bimbadeen declared Carbon Neutral and it is hoped that we can roll this program out to other Gippsland Natural suppliers.”

The Davies are always keen to share their knowledge and experience and have regular visits from farmer and Landcare groups and both tertiary and secondary school students and teachers.

Bob and Anne have been breeding cattle for decades. "Bimbadeen" cattle are renowned Australia wide for their high growth rate performance and carcase quality - well proven in National Steer Trials and Carcase competitions.

Their steers have won Domestic, Korean Export and Japanese Export in a combination of growth rate and carcase quality in trials throughout Australia.
